Steam Washer & Dryer
Steam works in ways that plain hot water cannot perform since it is a state of water that involves smaller molecules working rapidly. In this state, pulling out dirt particles from your clothes functions easier with these small, rapid-moving molecules penetrating deeper into the fabric where liquid formed molecules cannot.
Ever been told to be careful when pouring hot liquids, maybe while cooking, as steam can at times be hotter than the boiling water? This ability for water in its gaseous form to reach temperatures higher than liquid form water allows for sanitary cleaning in ways that standard washers cannot possibly perform.
Who's Making Steam Washers & Dryers
One such company, LG, has designed the front loading washer with steam availability. Announced as the first of its kind, this machine is called the Tromm Steam Washer and is installed with their TrueSteam technology. This technology is aimed to provide powerful, gentle steam for advanced cleaning performance. With nine wash cycles, they have included the SteamFresh cycle performing to reduce wrinkles, remove odors, and freshen clothing.
Prefer a different brand? Steam washer and dryers are also being built by Maytag, Kenmore, Whirlpool and Samsung. Having other brands to choose from allows more choices since they all provide various features. If you are not sure about these brands or do not know the differences between them, Metro Furniture Show has made this our job.
Using Steam To Dry?
You may be wondering how applying something that causes moisture can actually dry at the same time. Although this may sound illogical, scientists have worked on methods of using steam for drying clothes that function with higher performance than mere heat-generating dryers.
Here, we would like to depict your clothes iron. Think about how the iron works using steam and heat in combination to pull out those wrinkles that heat alone cannot achieve. You may think," But, they are already wet!" Yes, but again, the technology behind these dryers successfully accomplishes freshening, odor removing, sanitizing, and the wrinkle removing features of your clothes in ways far better than plain heat.
Dry Heat?
Many use what is called "dry" steam rather than the gaseous wet steam we know. Dry steam performs at higher temperatures which brings these cleaning features to a higher standard of care for your clothes. The idea is that whether using standard wet steam or the superheated dry steam, it is released at cyclical times during the dry which lend to higher performing drying than heat alone.
Less Trips To The Cleaners
Consider how this could cut down on those trips to the cleaners. While these machines may not completely eliminate your need for commercial cleaners, there are definitely times when these steam washer and dryers may be used instead: just use caution with a little common sense. If it is one of those pieces that are delicate and you would rather not risk washing at home, these machines will give you the assurance that using these machines at home will be safe. These washers and dryers are known as being great for delicates.
Spent an evening in a smoking venue? Simply throw your article in the dryer a few minutes for the fresh-smelling feature that would normally cost you a trip to the cleaners.
Energy, Just Less
Here is the feature that many will use as the main reason to buy these machines: energy-reducing and "green" qualities. By using steam there is less water used. It's really that simple. These machines come with the Energy Star and EnergyGuide tags that make them great for doing our part for the environment (see http://www.enerygstar.gov for more information). As we continue to reach higher rates of water-shortage, these machines contribute towards helping this terrible problem.

What To Expect
The release of Avatar 3D came much earlier than expected for non-commercial viewing, which was great for those already with 3D TV. It has been reported that George Lucas is planning on having all six of the Star Wars episodes available for 3D viewing. While sports are what is currently provided most in this TV arena, it's becoming obvious that old classics and general favorites will be in the works for the rise in 3D TV purchasing. Glasses, or No Glasses?
Just a few months ago this year Toshiba announced the release of two new 3D TVs which allow viewing 3D without the use of the special glasses. Although this first release is for Tokyo, we can expect to see them sitting on the shelf in no time.
With these rapid advances in TV technology, the question has been posed whether future TVs will come standard with 3D capabilities. According to a Google side dedicated to 3D TV, "In 2013, according to ABI Research, market growth will start to accelerate, and shipments of 3D TV sets will approach 50 million in 2015."

Microfiber Fabric & Upholstery - The Many Attributes
So, what exactly is Microfiber? Think of synthetic suede, plush and soft, and you have a description of microfiber. But that's only the beginning: there are actually a multitude of forms this unique material, depending on its textile design. Just to name a few, it makes:
- basketballs
- car interior & automotive cleaning materials
- mops
- insulation - sleeping bags/thermal goods
- clothing
- furniture & upholstery
Microfiber is composed of extremely small threads (less than one denier - the unit of measure for fiber density) which fashion the fabric into a velvety sway surface that is noted for its water repelling quality and many other attributes. Because of its micro-sized fibers, half that of a silk fiber, it permits qualities such as draping, luxuriant feel, various resistances, liquid repelling, as well as absorbency & cleaning assets.
Technical Makeup
In order to understand how the various qualities are attained, let's take a look at a basic technical description. Very simple, the characteristics of the material widely range from textiles designed for shine, some for plushness, absorbency, as well as non-absorbent materials. The engineering techniques all determine these characteristics.
Products needed for high-absorbency design microfiber by cutting cross-sections in ways that increase the filtration property with a capillary effect. When used as an upholstery, the fibers are woven in a special manner that results in materials with allow:
- alluring appearance
- extreme softness and comfort
- shape-holding qualities
- distinguished trait of being liquid-repellent
Microfibers liquid-repellent property makes it great for upholstered furniture as it is hard to stain. This same quality also lends to easy cleaning as well as bacteria mold prevention since its surface is hard to penetrate.
Cleaning Your Microfiber Upholstery
First and foremost, reading and following the care instruction label that comes with any fabric is the best advice. Should your upholstered furniture not come with a care label or you lose it, there are some basics for microfiber upholstery.
As with any upholstery, the fundamental rule is to vacuum on a regular basis. What is regular? Around once a week unless noticeable dirt is seen or spilled at one time.
Because of the "beading" effect that occurs with microfiber, spills should be blotted up with an absorbent cloth or towel, not scrubbed or pushed into the fabric. In most cases the beads will blot right up without the slightest evidence there was ever a spill. If there is still wetness felt on the spill area, take a damp cloth and clean with a mild detergent. Again, this should be done by blotting at the fabric, not rubbing - think of using lifting-up strokes rather than pushing down. Once the detergent is rinsed out, simply blow dry with a hair dryer. Do not use extreme heat as this could damage the fibers.
With the application of the suggested cleaning and care maintenance of your microfiber upholstered furniture, you may enjoy the distinguished qualities that people purchase microfiber for in their homes. Feel free to call or come into our store for the feel of the special touch of microfiber, or for any questions you may still have, call 214-243-3088.

Discount Does Not Equate Cheap
Many businesses have their own particular path and mission; some aim to provide a certain style, some want label-brand merchandise only, and some may want to fill a highly unique niche. The mission of Metro Furniture Show's proprietor, Karl Berry, felt in his heart that providing quality merchandise for the individual with a need to save money was where he was headed in this venture.
The Myths of Discount
Sadly, often times we equate "discount" with "cheap". This just simply isn't so. We tend to think that it will be different bought from Wal-Mart than if purchased at the local mall. Yes, often times the old adage stands that "you get what you paid for," but this isn't always the case. The idea is to use common sense.
For instance, let's say you want to set up a crafty and suave website. You set out by first getting bids whereby the first few range at an average of $1300. Suddenly, you come across a web designer who claims a blog design with all the bells and whistles will cost $500. What a steal! Well, that's exactly what it is - a steal. You will most likely end up with a disaster.
So, with our aim focused on a money-saving business one of the assets we provide our customers is to meet any competitor's price unless it prohibits us from providing the best merchandise or business for you. This is the very reason we claim "quality" and "discount" in the same sentence.
Top Brands
One of the ways we provide quality merchandise is by knowing our brands. While there are always debates and personal opinions on which brands stand on top, we believe in providing a large array for the customer to make that choice. Some of the name brands we provide are:

Old Washer & Dryer? Quit Wasting Money & Buy Efficient
We realize that it often seems backwards that in order to save money we have to spend money. But, the average washer and dryer, especially those over 10 years old, is washing money down the tube with every load.
Today, buying any appliance must meet the standards set by our government for utilizing efficient energy. The good news is that these regulations have been getting stricter every so many years, so just about any new washer and dryer will outdo your older ones in saving money.
Good Buying Tips
Always look at the "Energy Guide" and "Energy Star" label listed on the washer and dryer. This will lay out the money saving specifications on the unit you are considering. According to the site Natural Resources Defense Council, "Replacing a pre-1994 washer with an Energy Star model can save a family $110 a year on utility bills." While this was reported some years ago, one can imagine how the provisions have only improved while our lifestyles have moved towards environment awareness.
Might we also direct you to a website for saving electricity, since we at Metro Furniture Show believe in the environmentalist view: No Cost Home Electricity Conservation Tips. This site provides many useful tips for efficient home care and energy consumption.
Laundry Tips
Since 90% of the energy used in a washing machine goes into the heating of water, try using the cooler water settings if possible. Truly, only highly soiled laundry should be washed on hot.
Another useful tip is understanding the proper size for your laundry load. Many people simply guess and usually over guess the size. In other words, it was discovered that most people used a water level too high for the load being washed. A good idea is to lift the lid or stand and watch as it fills to see the water level once it stops filling. Your water level should only be a couple of inches above your laundry. Don't go too low either; this will not clean them properly.
Doing Our Part
Metro Furniture Show wants you to know that our primary mission is saving you money. This is why we have started blogging on our site for ways to bring you not only top quality merchandise, but at the best possible price. Feel free to view our site for our washer and dryer sets to start saving on your utility bills.
